Abstract

Lack of quality practices followed during the development of healthcare administration systems results in a product with higher maintenance costs and lower reliability. While multiple organizations are constantly developing standards and guidelines for various aspects of software development, a comprehensive set of standards and guidelines required for QA and QC is a requirement. Therefore, this study aimed at (1) Identifying relevant QA and QC standards for healthcare administration system, (2) Evaluating its applicability by applying it to a real life system, and (3) Developing a set of recommendations based on the evaluation. The study resulted in a set of tailored standards and guidelines which proved to be helpful in identifying missing process and documentation practices along with numerous quality issues. Lack of awareness and importance of application of relevant standards was identified as the cause of the issue. The recommendations obtained from the study proves to be helpful for the government officials, system developers, and other officials in an organization to evaluate and build quality systems
