Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the pass rates of students in remediation classes with
county-created remediation materials, and those in classes with school-created remediation
materials. The instrument used for this study was student achievement as measured by pass rates
on high school assessments in English, government, biology and algebra. A comparison of posttest
scores was used to measure achievement. The design that was used for this study was a
causal-comparative design. The study was conducted over a five month period culminating with
the administration of the High School Assessment. According to a Chi-Square analysis of the
data, it is apparent that the hypothesis was not supported as there was no difference in the
percentage of passers between the two groups. For future research, it is recommended that the
researcher focus on a school population that is less transient, as well as focusing on having a
more representative group as compared to the group that participated in this study.
