Abstract

Miss Adventure: My Life as a Geologist, Explorer, and Professional Risk-Taker plunges into the volatile reality of modern field science. Worlds away from the sterile lab environment associated with scientific research, this book is a candid, humorous, and striking window into adventures suited for Indiana Jones – except these real-life quests are part of the job when the objective is studying volcanoes. Horse thieves, narco-traffickers, and exploding equipment are trials of ingenuity and sometimes, basic survival. Jess Phoenix is a geologist and modern-day explorer, chronicling her evolution from neophyte student to Discovery Channel expedition leader, scaling ancient Andean peaks and probing the mighty Pacific Ocean depths in the eternal pursuit of knowledge.
