Abstract

Augmented reality is defined as a technology used to enhance the physical world by imposing virtual elements. This thesis paper is an observational case study of the impact of wearable augmented reality utilized by novice users to complete procedural tasks. The philosophy of this study is research through design with the intent to explore augmented reality technology and learn about the process of designing procedural instructions for wearable augmented reality. This research includes findings based on ARGOS (Augmented Reality Guidance and Operations System), a system built by a team at the University of Baltimore for the NASA SUITS challenge (Spacesuit User Interface Technologies for Students). This study includes findings from design practices, research methods, user testing protocols, and overall implications.
