Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine if passing the Advanced Placement Calculus Exam in
the senior year of high school had any effect on academic achievement in the first semester of
the freshman year in college. The measurement tool was the Advanced Placement Calculus AB
Exam of the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB). This was a correlational study
between the test results and grade point average after the first semester of the freshman year in
college. The results from the data showed very little correlation between the two variables.
Although there is some research in this area, future studies should focus on comparing the scores
of the AP Calculus Exam and mathematics achievement, specifically, as opposed to overall
grade point average.
