In this paper, it is shown explicitly through lowest order that the perturbations which appear in ion acoustic wave and shallow-channel water-wave experiments do not destroy, but merely renormalize, their velocity and shape. Comparisons with other perturbation approaches are made.8 pagesen-US©2025 American Physical Societyion acoustic waveshallow-channel water-wave experimentssolitonsHamiltonian perturbationsUMBC Optical Fiber Communications LaboratoryUMBC High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF)Origin of solitons in the real' worldText
