Item Applications of Tensor Decompositions(2016) Tapia, Sergio Garcia; Hsu, Rebecca; Hu, Alyssa; Stevens II, Darren; Graf, Jonathan S.; Gobbert, Matthias K.; Simon, Tyler A.This report explores how data structures known as tensors can be used to perform multidimensional data analysis. If a matrix can be thought of as a two-dimensional array, then a tensor can be thought of as a multi-dimensional array (with more than two dimensions). Tensor decompositions are algorithms and tools that can allow the user to directly perform analysis on this type of data. After explaining the basics of tensors, we work with two di erent three-dimensional data sets and decompose the tensors in order to provide analysis and interpretations of various aspects of the data.Item Tensor Methods for Static Malware Analysis(2023-01-01) Vieson, Colin Joseph; Nicholas, Charles; Computer Science and Electrical Engineering; Computer ScienceTensor decomposition methods have been used in many fields to find latent factors among data. Recent developments have made automatic decomposition feasible and has shown practical use in a network intrusion context. This work explores how tensors can be used in wide scale static malware analysis to provide automatic useful context to human analysts, where other automatic tools usually rely on short and incomprehensible strings of raw bytes.
