Item EUDAMONIA: EXAMINING THE USE OF NARRATIVE RECONSTRUCTION DURING LIFE-REVIEW(2015-08) Wiseman, RaeAnne; Hood College Psychology and Counseling; ThanatologyThis study examined the effects of life-review and the use of narrative reconstruction for 30 nursing home residents. Our initial hypothesis, that participating in a life-review improves one's sense of purpose and authenticity, proved unsubstantiated. However, by measuring the use of cognitive emotion regulation strategies through linguistic analysis, content analysis and selfreport scores we found significant correlations between authenticity and positive reappraisal among our participants. Our results suggest that the use of cognitive emotion regulation strategies may help individuals create a sense of personal authenticity.
