Item The RVAAM Alumni Academy Forum: Quarterly Newsletter(Roper Victim Assistance Academy of Maryland, 2014-01) Ropers Victim Assistance Academy of MarylandGreetings Alumni! It has been one crazy winter so far, and I for one can only hope Spring shows up soon.I have some pretty exciting news to share - the VSPN is revamping and getting back into the momentum, so please watch for updates for training, fundraisers, and upcoming activities. We have some very exciting things coming up in the near future, including a fundraiser for scholarship money for certification. So don’t forget that you can apply for certification any time, and you can download the application at the RVAAM website at www.rvaam.org. Let’s continue to build on the momentum we have established so far and continue to see more victim professionals pursue certification. In fact, let’s make our State have the best Victim Service Professionals in the country! With Spring right around the corner, now is the time to start recruiting for the upcoming Roper Victim Assistance Academy. The Academy will take place from June 2nd-6th at the Bon Secours Center in Marriottsville. Please encourage your colleagues to apply and share with them your experiences. I’ve always said the greatest marketing tool we have for the Academy is the word of our Alumni. So please spread the word! And for those of you who have never visited Bon Secours, please take the time to join us during this year’s Academy - it truly is a wonderful location and fosters an incredible learning environment. If you are interested in participating in this year’s Academy in some capacity, please contact Linda Fair at lfair@ubalt.edu Wishing you all the best ~ until next time... Debbie Bradley, C.A., VASIIIItem The RVAAM Alumni Academy Forum: Quarterly Newsletter(Roper Victim Assistance Academy of Maryland, 2013-10) Roper Victim Assistance Academy of MarylandThe fall season is upon us, and with that comes the hectic time of year for those of you with school-aged children. Every day we grapple with a balancing act between the demands of work and home, both of which take up our time and energy. Sometimes it’s hard to find that healthy balance. I think in our particular field of work, it is even more difficult because we are caretakers at work and at home. So sometimes those boundaries can become blurred. But we need to put things into perspective and remember our priorities.Remember, your job is to make sure victims can move forward and make decisions for themselves - not to depend on you for their stability. You need to take a step back and allow them to make their own decisions, right or wrong, and support them, not be responsible for them. Your sense of commitment and responsibility can eventually contribute to you feeling burdened, overwhelmed, and hopeless in the face of great need and suffering. It can also lead you to extend yourself beyond what is reasonable for your own well-being or the best long-term interests of others. So please remember during this very busy time of year to slow down, take a good look at what you are doing and try to balance your life. And if you think you need help in doing that, don’t forget you have a very large network of people - your fellow alumni - who can help, all you have to do is ask! Wishing you all the best ~ until next time..Item The RVAAM Alumni Academy Forum: Quarterly Newsletter(Roper Victim Assistance Academy of Maryland, 2014-04) Bradley, Debbie; Lee, Michelle; Gethers, Keith; Fundack, Ashley; Pfiefer, Heather; Roper Victim Assistance Academy of MarylandHappy Spring Alumni!! After the long winter we have all endured this year, I’m sure you all are just as excited as I am to see the trees beginning to bloom, the flowers beginning to poke up through the earth, and to feel the warm rays of the sun.!Well with the warm weather comes lots of activities, such as the Roper Victim Assistance Academy. This is the 11th year of the Academy, can you believe it? Once again it will be held at the beautiful Bon Secours Spiritual Center in Marriottsville from June 1st-6th. I hope you will consider popping in at some point to show your support to the new students and to catch up with your fellow Alums. Just think back to your own experience at the Academy and how special it was to see Alumni there and to have the opportunity to network with them. Once again the Academy week will start off with the Ice Cream Social that Sunday evening, so please join the Academy faculty and staff in greeting the members of the 2014 class and share a bowl (or two) of ice-cream with them to help them start off the week on a “sweet” note. Just email Linda Fair at lfair@ubalt.eduto let her know if you plan on attending! There are also lots of exciting things coming up for VSPN this year, so please keep your eyes and ears open for news! It looks like we are going to try another train and shopping excursion since so many people told us how much fun they had the last time, and once again we will be soliciting your help in identifying a family we can sponsor during the upcoming holiday season. VSPN will also offer a few trainings this year, as well as help out at the advanced training which will be held during this year’s Academy.
