Abstract
Nοσταλγία (Nostalgía): A Philosophical Return to my Traumatic Childhood is a memoir exploring my relationship with my father as I grew up in a household of tyrannical, narcissistic abuse. It is a reflection of what it means to be liberated from an abusive parent and what it means to build autonomy from that liberation. The work incorporates and explores particular concepts of the western philosophical tradition, looking at questions of relationship, forgiveness, alienation, punishment, and power. The catalyst for this work is a self-reflection: to explore how to act in such a way that is in direct negation of my father’s actions towards me.
