Abstract

The study of the physical processes in the region just above the magnetic poles of strongly magnetic accreting neutron stars is essential to the understanding of stellar and binary system evolution, as well as that of the origin and evolution of neutron star magnetic fields. Recent advances in modeling these processes have resulted in direct measurement of the magnetic fields and plasma parameters in physical units as opposed to empirical ones.
