Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a connection between parental
involvement and youth athletes’ self-esteem in a youth boys’ soccer team. The study used a
descriptive design where 13 parents filled out a Parental Involvement in Sports Questionnaire
and 16 youth soccer players filled out a Self-Description Questionnaire. The data showed that the
youth soccer players were very confident in their skills and showed high self-esteem, while the
parents placed little pressure on their children when it came to soccer. Additional research is
needed to further explain the relationship between parental involvement and youth athletes’ self esteem.
