dc.description.abstract	In her creative nonfiction thesis, “The Heart is a Muscle,” Megan Reilley examines how her identity as a motherless daughter informs her navigation of difficult circumstances as a mother of four, including supporting a child through a gender transition. In this memoir, Reilley explores mothering and the body, and our expectations of both. Further, she seeks to understand the ways in which trauma, grief, and motherhood intersect.	en
