Abstract

At the 25th ACM SIGKDD conference on Knowledge and Data Discovery (KDD), a special Earth Day symposium was held to bring together thought leaders in academia, industry and government to discuss opportunities for data science to help meet the challenges facing our planet Earth. The all-day event showcased some examples of data-intensive research being done to study Earth-related phenomena. A key goal of the symposium was to raise awareness about the unique challenges that Earth-related datasets pose for data mining.
