Abstract
Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is an increasingly important limitation in long-haul optical fiber communication as the per channel data rate increases. Since recirculating loops are commonly used for long-haul system design and experimentation, PMD emulators that accurately reproduce the statistics of straight-line WDM systems are increasingly critical.
