Abstract
The impact of a reading intervention program, Performance and Reading (PAR), on seventh and
eighth grade students’ performance on the Gates-MacGinitie reading test (GMRT) and the
reading portion of the Maryland School Assessments (MSA) is the focus of this study. The
groups were made up of seventh and eighth grade students taking PAR reading intervention. The
students were from a public school and both groups received the same instruction. Data for the
research was collected over an entire school year. The results of the study showed PAR
intervention has a positive influence on eighth grade students’ MSA test results. Further
research could be conducted to explore if PAR intervention affects Gates-MacGinitie
assessments over a longer period of time.
