Abstract

Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok have become central to the emotionaland relational lives of young adults, profoundly influencing how they experience and manageromantic relationships. Social media has become a primary tool for emotional regulation, fostering dependence on external validation, reinforcing unrealistic relationship expectations, and heightening anxiety through constant exposure to curated digital interactions. As theseplatforms continue to evolve and integrate into daily life, it is crucial to examine the long-termpsychological and relational effects of this digital intimacy. This paper explores young adultsnavigating breakups, uncertain relationships, or ongoing emotional challenges. Social mediabecomes a tool for regulating feelings, yet paradoxically, it can heighten stress, anxiety, andrelational insecurity. Social media has emerged as a key partner in young adults’ romanticexperiences and discusses the implications of this reliance for the future of healthy and authenticrelationships in an increasingly virtual world.
