Abstract

The use of dispersion-managed solitons has permitted the transmission of 20 Gb/s data over 14,000 km [1] and 10 Gb/s over 24,500 km [2] at low error rates without using active controls or frequency shifting filters. This data format has been tested on a commercial network [3].
