dc.description.abstractI wrote this to explore my interests in how the small firm, that with little money, power, or protection fared during Russia's transition. I was most interested in how the Russian government affected the growth and success of the small business sector. From Katherine Harback: The performance of the post-Communist economies has been highly variable and attempting to explain why some economies succeed and others fail to thrive is a complex endeavor. In this paper, Ray focuses on one important factor, the presence and health of small businesses, as a potential explanatory factor. He does a good job explaining the role of small business in a healthy economy and characterizing the obstacles Russian businesses face.en_US
