Abstract
In this position paper, we present our reflections about
a project in which we used e-textile prototypes to inspire dialogue and creative expression with members of a Mayan weaving community in Chiapas, Mexico. We
encountered a complex and interwoven web of social,
political, economical and gender issues that impacted
our encounter. Our experience highlighted the importance of taking into account these dynamics, and especially the traditional gender roles that men and women have in this society and how it affects their relationships to materials and practices.
