dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the 6+1 Traits of Writing method of instruction on repeating 9th grade and honors 9th grade students’ writing achievement. To determine the effectiveness of the 6+1 Traits of Writing on writing achievement, this study utilized a pre-test/post-test quasi-experimental design. The intervention, a set of lessons and assignments that focused on the 6+1 Traits of Writing, took place over an eight-week time period. The hypothesis was retained because there was no significant difference in writing achievement between the two groups; however, there was an overall improvement in scores. It is recommended that future research studies utilize more structured lessons, a longer period of time, technology based writing, and more one-on-one instruction.en_US
