The impact of an intervention program involving sight words on fluency in first grade readers is the focus of the study. Both the experimental and control groups were first grade students who, according to a pretest were rated equal in ability. The students were from a private school with both groups receiving the same daily instruction with the exception of the experimental group receiving the intervention program. The study was conducted over a three week period. The results of the study showed improvement with the scores of the experimental group indicating the positive effect of the intervention program on fluency of first grade readers. Further research could be conducted to explore the effects of fluency intervention programs on the achievements of first graders.en_US
