The purpose of this study was to determine whether a regimented resistance training program would improve runners’ times. The measurement tool consisted of weekly time trials. This study involved the use of an experimental design. Each athlete from the experimental group established a base time, participated in the treatment, and then ran his respective events. Control group members did not participate in resistance training. Changes in times were better for experimental group members than for members of the control group, though results might be more meaningful if additional measures were used. Research in the area of high school track and resistance training regimens should continue given the lack of current research on the potential relationship between resistance training and speed.en
