dc.description.abstractThe impact and success of the school program Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) was the focus of the study. Both the experimental and control groups were eleventh and twelfth grade students who, according to school schedules, were of equal educational ability. The students involved in the study were from a public Baltimore County high school and received the same instructional curriculum; however, the experimental group received the treatment of the AVID program. The study was conducted over the first quarter of the 2010-2011 academic year, with additional data collected and analyzed from the past three school years. The results of the study indicated that those students involved in the AVID program demonstrated higher attendance, elevated grade point average, advanced placement course enrollment, and higher number of four year college application. Further study is recommended to examine the success of the AVID students post college.en_US
