dc.description.abstractActively monitoring the heart rate and respiration rate is very essential as there exists a high correlation between these parameters and different cardiovascular events. Photoplethysmography (PPG) based heart rate monitoring is commonly employed in the smart watches and most of the industry products perform heart rate estimation only. However, it is difficult to keep accurate track of the heart rate or respiration rate by just using the PPG signal as it highly vulnerable to motion artifacts. This research presents a custom design for wearable wristband using PPG sensor which provides a single platform for heart rate, respiration rate along with activity monitoring and audio data recording. The research aims to solve the problems such as ambient light and variation in intensity of reflected light caused due to the hand as well as sensor motion by using multiple LEDs for measurement. Using adaptive filtering technique for motion artifact removal combined with peak verification step, the heart and respiration rate can be estimated within accepted error range even during different moderate physical activities.
