dc.description.abstract | Hughie Lee-Smith (1915-1999) was an American painter who grew up during the Great Depression and was an active member of arts communities in Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago. Lee-Smith was influenced by the Harlem Renaissance and participated in the Works Progress Administration/Federal Art Project. The chronology of the artist’s life draws from archival research that utilized Lee-Smith’s personal papers. | en_US |
