One of the fundamental arguments of this book is that interculturality should be used as a critical construct of socio-cultural analysis. More than anything else, critical interculturality is an ethical project aimed at the substantive transformation of an implicit general framework that has been created by economic and cultural inequalities. Recent changes in the global political economy directly affect the entire region of Our America and the Caribbean, but continue to reinforce inequality. Although nation-states may renegotiate agreements, the problems that the majority of the populations face only increase, and are dealt with only partially and insufficiently. It is crucial for all of our America and the Caribbean that we generate new pathways of critical knowledge beyond university classrooms so that together we might create the possibilities for real transformation. This desire to better understand the connections between inequality and difference, and to communicate across those differences, led us to our First Symposium of Sentipensante Dialogue of Our America, held in Mexico City in November 2017. Based on this experience that enriched us all, we incorporated the concept of sentipensante (sensing/thinking) into the title of this volume, Sentipensante Critical Interculturality. We hope that the work here invites reflection and strengthens the certainty that empathetic intercultural bridges can be built. | en_US |
