Comparing Physical Characteristics and Recruiting History Differences of Female Collegiate Lacrosse Players Between Division I and Division III

Abstract

This study surveyed 92 collegiate women’s lacrosse players between the Division I and Division III levels. The purpose of this research is to determine any differences between the physical attributes and abilities and recruiting experiences of female collegiate lacrosse players among the Division I and Division III levels. The instrument was a seventeen item self-reported survey which focuses on physical aspects and abilities of the player, player accolades at the High School and college level, recruiting experiences, and academic college information. Results of the survey indicated that there were differences between players among the two Divisions for 8 out of 17 questions. Primary differences between players were evident in physical capabilities, High School lacrosse accolades, recruiting experiences, and college applications and visits. The biggest challenges reported in these findings come from a small sample size and lack of diversity between the four schools which participated in this study. Implications and suggestions for further research on this subject are discussed.
