The purpose of this study was to determine whether a goal setting intervention and autonomy – supportive coaching, would help increase the level of intrinsic motivation in female athletes. The measurement tool was the Sports Motivation Scale. This study involved the use of a pretest/posttest design to compare data from February 2011 (before the intervention was administered) to data from April of 2011 (after the intervention was nearly complete). Overall, there were little significant change between the pretest and posttest. The research showed that while there was little significance presented, one may see a positive change if the intervention was give over a longer period of time. This research should be conducted with a greater sample size and longer time for an intervention.en_US
