| dc.description.abstract | This master’s thesis used research through design approach to investigate the adoption of the new sound blending rhythmic sections of both Hindustani classical music and western music conventions. The approach was combining the jivari timbre of the tanpura and pairing that with the construction of an electric bass guitar. The final product is a new instrument called a “tambass.” The design process was an immersive experience that produced a way to deliver a new sound. The thesis guides the reader through the research through design process while presenting the prototype to a sample group of musicians. The shared insights inform further development and a framework to create similar experiences. | |
