Abstract
We use importance sampling to determine the differential group delay probability distribution produced by various polarization-mode-dispersion emulator models, showing that the tail probabilities can be orders of magnitude smaller than best-fit Maxwellian distributions. PMD emulators can therefore significantly underestimate the probability of rare DGD events.
