Beyond merely representing a late-in-life trans woman, the television show Transparent raises other issues around representational conventions in media about trans, intersex, and gender non-conforming people. Through a multi-screen analysis of a scene from the pilot, this video essay explores how the show both replicates and intervenes in these conventions.
