Abstract
This theses focuses on documenting the feasibility and challenges faced during design and deployment of the cyber-physical system(CPS) for early warning Flashflood Event. We have developed a mobile wireless sensor system that can monitor the rising level of water, generate the real-time alert and send out notifications to the concerned personnel. We will present our design, the learning experience in developing such system, its success, reliability and sustainability. We have also explored supplementing our environmental sensors with the Social Sensor by collecting, processing, and aggregating streams of social media data during and after the crisis. We will present our finding on the possibility of such multimodal data fusion and future research direction in being able to develop robust distributed data analytics platform for Real-Time Monitoring and Detection of Flash Flood in the Smart City
