Abstract
Actively mode-locked Nd:glass lasers can potentially generate very short pulses since they have broad lasing bandwidths (~5 nm for Nd:silicate) even in the free-running state. However, the modulator is too weak to mode-lock fully such broad bandwidth without compensation of the group velocity dispersion (GVD).
