dc.description.abstractIn this paper, we describe the development of a curricular unit which incorporates Virtual Reality (VR) technology to support instruction in service learning. The unit could potentially aid service learning instructors aiming to integrate virtual reality technologies to provide awareness of social issues, and help to challenge assumptions and stereotypes within the classroom. The curriculum development approach involved identifying and analyzing related curricular content from educational institutes to identify common learning objectives and methods of assessment, which could be developed into a draft unit. Two focus group sessions were conducted with service learning experts where proposed content could be examined and strengthened. The resulting unit can be integrated into service learning courses, to support instructors with limited experience of virtual reality technologies to utilize these to support classroom activities.
