Abstract

The purpose of this study was to conduct a pilot assessment of a questionnaire that will be used in a future study to assess the influence on athletic trainers regarding the medical decision-making process for returning athletes to play. The study involved the use of a questionnaire, which underwent a peer-review to assess its validity, specifically designed for athletic trainers working at NCAA member institutions from all divisions. This study found that the questionnaire requires adjustments and clarifications before use as an instrument in a full review. Additionally, a small number of athletic trainers answered the questionnaire revealing influence from coaches and athletic administrators in the delivery of healthcare services to student-athletes. Further research is necessary to utilize the results of this pilot study in future research.
