This presentation was given as part of a panel, “Try It, You'll Like It: A Hands-on Crowdsourcing Q&A,” at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference on October 10, 2015. It focused on analyzing the “Picture It” exhibit in terms of its effectiveness in generating metadata for over 500 unidentified photographs from the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Baltimore and Central Maryland (GLCCB) collection at the University Baltimore. These images depict many people, places and events spanning last fifty years of the history of Baltimore’s LGBT community. During the exhibit, members of community were invited to fill out forms to record any information they might be able to provide to help identify the images. This project was evaluated as an interactive, low tech, inexpensive and simple way to generate crowdsourced metadata for otherwise unidentified and inaccessible archival material.en_US
