To expose students to the fundamentals of molecular biology and to create a more knowledgeable public, the Recombinant DNA Workshop (RDW) was developed. The workshop is intended for high school students. Ideally, the RDW would first be given to high school teachers, who in turn would present the RDW to their students. During the last full week in April 1991 and the first two weeks in May 1991, a pilot study of the RDW was conducted at Hood College, Frederick, Maryland. The pilot study was successful. Students were able to execute the techniques required and to grasp the concepts presented in the RDW.
