Abstract

Commencement 2000: The main ceremony will take place on May 21, 2000, at Hill Field House instead of Hughes Stadium due to ongoing construction. There will be a two-tier graduation process to accommodate the students and their guests, splitting the ceremony into two shifts to manage the crowd and ensure everyone can invite as many family members as they wish. Illegal Drug Use at Morgan: There have been recent incidents involving illegal substances found in residence halls, leading to increased police awareness and surveillance. Specific cases include a student in Pezavia O’Connell Hall being caught with cocaine and marijuana, and another incident where students indulged in drug use in a residence hall lounge. Philosophy Luncheons: The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies hosts weekly luncheons to promote intellectual inquiry and dialogue outside of formal classes. Topics discussed include “Why You Should Not Vote,” “Racism in the Church,” “African-Americans and Philosophy,” “Islam on the Morgan Campus,” and others. Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society Induction: On April 4, 29 students from various majors were inducted into the Pi Lambda Psi Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society. The ceremony highlighted the importance of academic excellence and self-belief, with Dr. Melva Brown, M.D. as the keynote speaker. Unity Week: Organized by the Sophomore Class, Unity Week aimed to promote unity and uplift the Morgan State community. Each day of the week had a specific theme, such as Black Women’s Day, Family Day, Black Men’s Day, Solidarity Day, and Unity Day, featuring various activities and forums to foster community spirit. Honda Campus All-Star Challenge: Morgan State’s academic team participated in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge, a national academic trivia tournament. The team placed in the “elite eight” and received $7,500 for their achievement.
