Abstract

Homecoming Recap: The Homecoming 2003 theme was "Heroes are Remembered, Legends Never Die." The Student Government Association (SGA) expressed gratitude to alumni, friends, family, administrators, faculty, and staff for their support and contributions to the success of the events. Denyce Graves Performance: Renowned mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves performed at Morgan State University, receiving three standing ovations. She shared insights with music majors on managing nerves, breathing techniques, and pursuing professional music careers. Herb N' Soul Feature: Herb N' Soul, an independent multimedia company, promotes healthy energy through herbs, organics, and the arts. The company features artists like Big Brother Soul, Dave Hollister, and others. Founded by Chopmaster J, the company aims to blend live R&B with popular vocal harmonies. Sister Souljah Lecture: Sister Souljah addressed students at Morgan’s First Annual Homecoming Lecture, focusing on "Manhood and Womanhood." She discussed the impact of slavery, the importance of knowledge, and the need for self-respect and cultural integrity within the African American community. Campus Improvements: Dr. Cecil Payton announced new facilities for Morgan State University, including a student center with various amenities and a new library. The master plan includes a ten-year development strategy to incorporate advanced technology and better accommodate students and staff. Coach Davis on Student Interaction: Coach Davis, also known as Coach D, emphasized the importance of respect, love, and unity among students. He highlighted the need for more on-campus activities to reduce off-campus risks and foster a supportive community. Prince Twins Seven-Seven’s Address: Nigerian artist Prince Twins Seven-Seven delivered a keynote address during the Performing Arts Convocation, showcasing his art and music. He stressed the significance of faith and cultural pride. Frankie Beverly and Maze Concert: The Alumni Homecoming concert featured Frankie Beverly and Maze. Beverly shared his inspiration and dedication to music, encouraging students to pursue their dreams. SGA Events and Initiatives: Upcoming events include Ms. Morgan’s Entrepreneur Day, a trip to Arundel Mills for the Class of 2006, and “For Men Only” forums hosted by Mr. Morgan. The SGA is also organizing late-night study hall sessions and addressing issues such as extended library hours.
