Abstract

The dragonfly fauna of the Monocacy River was surveyed by collecting nymphal specimens from representative collecting sites at eighteen locations along the river. Nymphs of four families, seven genera and two subgenera of dragonflies were collected during the survey, including representatives of the genera Dromogomphus and Plathemis. Data resulting from the survey establishes new state distribution records for these two taxonomic groups. The present survey of the Anisoptera of the Monocacy River also serves as a baseline for future ecological studies of the river, and research on the life history of these aquatic insects.
