Abstract

Baltimore Rallies for Education Revolution: Protesters, including Morgan State University students, marched from Camden Yards to the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center. The march advocated for reallocating $100 million from the budget to education instead of youth jails. The Baltimore Algebra Project led the demonstration, emphasizing leadership, community, and constitutional rights with a focus on education. Earthquakes Rock the Lower Hemisphere: Chile was struck by an 8.8-magnitude earthquake on February 27, affecting nearly 2 million people and resulting in almost 800 deaths. The quake caused significant destruction and led to looting due to scarcity of food and water. The Chilean government requested aid from the U.S., receiving field hospitals, power generators, and other emergency supplies. SGA Elections; Is It an Unequal Playing Field?: Concerns were raised about the promotion and accessibility of the Student Government Association (SGA) elections at Morgan State University Lack of traditional communication methods like flyers and emails led to students feeling uninformed about the elections. Some students believed the election process was staged to favor SGA members and their friends. New Health Care Bill: A Change for the Better?: President Barack Obama proposed a nearly $1 trillion Health Care Bill to ensure coverage for 45 million uninsured Americans. The bill aims to prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions. There was controversy over the bill, with Republicans criticizing it as a government takeover of health care. Obama’s New Focus to Improve High School Retention: President Obama addressed the high school dropout rate, with 7,000 students dropping out daily, many of whom are African American and Latino males. Obama plans to provide federal aid to school districts that develop plans to help students graduate. The initiative aims to increase graduation rates and improve the U.S. economy by adding more than $310 billion in personal income. Organization Spotlight: Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA): FCA combines a passion for sports with a passion for Christ, promoting leadership and community among athletes. The organization hosts various events and meetings to encourage spiritual growth and unity.
