The ability to regenerate lost or damaged tissues would revolutionize multiple areas of medicine :from new limbs for amputees to eliminating organ transplants. Even if full regeneration remains out of reach, this treatment could reduce scar formation during healing to improve recovery after surgery and, for example, to maintain higher percentages of functioning cardiomyocytes after heart attacks.
