The question of whether historical “legacy” sediment deposits exposed in stream banks represent a major source of sediment and nutrients affecting water quality in Chesapeake Bay has become an active topic of discussion over the past decade. This workshop report examines the state of the science, describes mitigation options for legacy sediments and other sources of sediment and nutrients, and cites questions raised by managers and policymakers involved in Bay watershed restoration
