Abstract

There are many statistics software packages on the market today. By and large, they exist for one purpose, and they serve that purpose well: to provide the experienced scientist with a full range of statistical procedures for the field and laboratory. The user of such software is expected to know quite a bit about computers and statistics. As a result, few high school and college students can easily utilize most existing statistics software packages. The purpose of ENvironmental COMputer - ASSisted EDucation, ENCOMPASSED: STATISTICS FOR FIELD BIOLOGISTS is to provide the novice with an easy-to -use package of the basic descriptive statistics important for field biology. The program is general, so it can be used by people in other disciplines, too. It is powerful enough for use by active researchers as well as by students. Any student who can turn on a PC and insert a disk into a floppy drive can use this software package TODAY. It is highly interactive and takes the user step-by-step through the various statistics routines. As a result, this instruction manual is very brief. The only way to learn how to use a software package is to use the software package. So, go to it!
