Our long term goal is to understand how proteins mediate, in vivo, the complex interrelationship between the lipid metabolism and membrane bending , in relavence to fission and fusion of vesicles. Phospholipases constitute a diverse group of enzymes involved in metabolism of the phosphoglycerolipids and generate second messengers for a number of different signaling pathways and also has a role in intracelluluar membrane trafficking and vesicular transport (6). Our main focus of the study is to evaluate the in vivo role of phosphatidic specific phospholipase Al (PA-PLA1) enzyme in Drosophila. The specific objective of the study is to generate tools such as Drosophila PA-PLA1 specific antibody and a mutant to study the in vivo role of PA-PLA1.
