| dc.description.abstract | I almost immediately wanted to concentrate on female Nigerian writers alone because it seems a great deal has already been said about the works of male Nigerian writers. In the course of my undergraduate education I know of two academic courses where students are required to read Nigerian novels, and they are both written by men.1 I have had the privilege of educating a dear friend of mine who was shocked to learnthere were many of female Nigerian writers, because Achebe and Soyinka were all she had ever heard about. Her astonishment speaks to the fact that female Nigerian writers have not attained nearly the same level of prominence as their male counterparts. | |
