Usability Evaluation and Recommendations for an E-Governmnt Health-care Administration System

Abstract

Lack of user-centered approach during the designing of healthcare administration system results in less reliable and less user-friendly systems. Despite the rapid growth of government in healthcare administration, various software usability problems often prevent the e-government systems to achieve their full potential. Therefore, this study aims at (1) understanding the current usability improvement directions for a real-life healthcare administration system, (2) documenting the challenges and opportunities that emerge by applying a systematic approach for usability evaluation in this context, and (3) providing a set of recommendations that can be useful for the government officials and IT vendors which can benefit the future usability of the e-government healthcare administration systems. The study adopted a set of qualitative and quantitative usability evaluation methods which proved helpful in identifying usability problems and documenting practices along with numerous navigational issues. The study suggests recommendations for solving every catastrophic as well as cosmetic usability problems that efficiently improve the usability of the e-government healthcare administrative system.
