| dc.description.abstract | Cultures of anaerobic marine bacteria belonging to the genera Desulfovibrio and Spirochaeta were isolated from their natural environment and evaluated for the production of bioactive metabolites. The extracts from cultures of nine isolates were tested on bioassays including antibacterial, antifungal, anti-AIDS, genotoxic and antineoplastic bioassay systems. Several extracts from cultures of isolates of Desulfovibrio spp. exhibited antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria. This activity was due to a nonpolar constituent of the spent culture medium. | |
