The purpose of this project was to identify locations in the greater Washington, D.C. area most at risk from future development. In order to determine these areas, research was conducted using master plans, databases, primary literature, mainstream publications and local government resources. A set of parameters was established which included projected population, housing and employment growth, as well as existing stream quality. Locations were also considered based on proposed development activity and local bodies of water that might be impacted by development. Nine locations were identified as “at-risk”. Brandywine, Clarksburg, and White Oak, MD are of primary focus in this report. These locations were selected as they are projected to sustain significant increases in population and development in the foreseeable future.en_US
